Venice: Felice Valgrisi, 1587.   A richly illustrated edition of Orlando furioso, complete with the five additional cantos that Ariosto composed between 1518 and 1519 and edited by Girolamo Ruscelli (1518-1566). The cantos open with fine full-page woodcuts, finely engraved and based on the drawings by Dosso Dossi (1489-1542).   4to (245 x 170mm). Printer's device on title, title within typographical border with portrait of the author, woodcut headpieces and initials, many full-page woodcut illustrations (browning, occasional stains and soiling, marginal waterstains on gatherings B-C and 2T, title and some leaves slightly cropped, without final blank). 18th-century vellum with gilt decorations and manuscript title on spine (minor rubbing and chipping). Provenance: Belondell (ancient ownership inscription on title) - contemporary and ancient ownership inscription deleted on title - few contemporary annotations and underlining.
