Carpets and Textiles are like a fresco in which history, art and cultural patterns from the East and the West blend.

 

The preciousness of materials and the figurative intent with which these objects are conceived, make them a furniture element that, from ancient times until today, boasts the interest of a niche of enthusiastsThe fine catalogue proposal of carpets, tapestries, textiles, laces and fine fabrics, goes through the centuries to compose new pages of market and elegance.

 


 

In 2024, the Department of Carpets and Textiles stood out for a remarkable recovery in the sector and outstanding performance achieved with historical and rare pieces: over € 270,000 in sales and over 85% of lots sold, with a 150% increase over starting prices. 

 

Among the most significant results of the year, special mention goes to the five fragments of a Ushak carpet from around 1500–1600, an important testimony to the history of Oriental carpets, nicknamed “Lotto” because similar examples were depicted in the works of the Venetian painter of the same name (lot 639 – Auction 653, sold for € 27,760); the rare Kirman carpet from the workshop of HAJJI QAMAR (?) ALI KIRMAN, created to celebrate the end of the First World War around 1919–1920 (lot 658 – Auction 653, sold for € 27,760); the Sarouk carpet, Persia, 20th century, with Agra decoration (lot 197 – Auction 675, sold for € 25,200); and the Flemish tapestry, likely from the Enghien workshop, 15th–16th century, featuring an owl in a forest (lot 272 – Auction 675, sold for € 22,680).
The list continues with other noteworthy sales of items from diverse origins and manufacturers, all capable of capturing the attention of enthusiasts. Highlights include the 18th-century Bergama carpet (lot 73 – Auction 653, sold for € 11,340); the 19th-century Caucasian Sumak (lot 218 – Auction 675, sold for € 8,820); and the extensive offering of elegant 19th-century Aubusson carpets (lot 309 – Auction 653, sold for € 3,780).
Among the most appreciated Persian carpets, two 19th-century examples stand out: the Ferahkan-Sarouk (lot 644 – Auction 653, sold for € 5,670) and the silk prayer rug from Keshan (lot 839 – Auction 675, sold for € 5,670).
Also noteworthy was the renewed interest in the textiles sector, where among fine fabrics and intricate embroidery, the sale of the rare 19th-century Kashmir Shawl from India, decorated with a Mirab (lot 452 – Auction 675, sold for € 3,780), and the lace tablecloth from Burano (lot 176 – Auction 653, sold for € 2,142) particularly stood out.
