Seconda edizione in Italiano dopo la prima pubblicata in ottavo nel 1548 e fondamentale per essere stata la prima a raffigurare il mondo moderno in due emisferi. Fra le carte più importanti vi sono quelle della Tierra Nueva con la tierra del Bacalaos e la Tierra del Laborador, la carta del Brasile, l’isola di Cuba e di Santo Domingo e la carta della Nueva Hispana che raffigura correttamente la penisola dello Yucatan e riporta i nomi dei luoghi esplorati da Pineda, Cabeza de Vaca e Moscosso. 4to (238 x 165mm). 3 parti in 1 volume, marche tipografiche ai frontespizi, numerose figure e diagrammi xilografici nella prima parte, 64 carte geografiche incise su rame nella seconda, 27 tavole nel Discorso e 37 nelle Espositioni, fregi e capilettera tipografici incisi in legno (lievi macchie di umidità su carte iniziali e titolo, fogli su guardie moderne). First edition with Ruscelli's translation: 'A new and important edition, with a new series of maps' (Sabin). The maps in the present work are a larger versions based on those by Giacomo Gastaldi, first published in the edition of 1548. Ten of the maps relate to the Americas, including map XXXV, a revised version of the Zeno map of the Arctic, describing the journey of the author's ancestors in the 1390s to Greenland, Iceland, the mythical islands of Frisland and Icaria, and what is now thought to be Newfoundland and Labrador. While Zeno shows Greenland connected to Norway, Ruscelli has updated the map by eliminating this land bridge. Other New World maps include the South American continent, Brazil, Central America and the Baja Peninsula, the eastern coast of North America, Cuba and Hispaniola.
