A good copy with its contemporary binding of the definitive edition of Promessi Sposi and the first to be illustrated; with the text of the "Colonna Infame" published for the first time. Illustrations by Francesco Gonin, Paolo e Luigi Riccardi, Massimo d'Azeglio engraved by Bernard Pollet, Sheeres and Luigi Sacchi. (279 x 187mm). Additional title and vignette on title, text within frame, 450 woodcut plates (occasional light spotting). Contemporary half calf, panels in cloth, spine titled in gilt and decorated in blind, decorative endpapers (hinges reinforced, some rubbing, light chipping to spine). Provenance: Bebe Radaelli (ownership inscription dated 1944).
