LE ROY & FILS Brass and glass regulator clock with perpetual calendar and four dials. Paris, around 1870. Upper dial: hours, minutes and seconds with "coup perdu" escapement and signature "LE ROY & FILS PAL.s R.al G.ie MONTPENSIER 13-15 Paris". Left dial: days of the week and moon phases. Right dial: perpetual calendar. Dial at the bottom: metallic barometer. Movement signed and numbered "5925" made from three sections: time and strike train on the upper side, perpetual calendar and moon phases train in the middle, barometer mechanism on the bottom side. Single rod pendulum with spring suspension. H. cm 56,5 (minor defects) The name Le Roy is well known in the world of clockmaking. The most famous member of the dynasty was Julien Le Roy (1686 - 1759). After him there have been several ramifications up to Louis Charles (1794 - 1866). The latter, around 1830, renamed his company as "Le Roy et Fils" at 13 Galerie Montpensier. He participated in various international exhibitions until he sold the company to his collaborator Casimir Desfontaines (1794 - 1880 ca.), who also opened a branch in London in Regent Street in 1856. During the "Desfontaines period" the company participated in various exhibitions again, including that of Paris in 1855, London 1861, Paris 1867, Paris 1869, Wien 1873, Paris 1878. In 1898 the last Desfontaines member associated with a descendant of Le Roy, changing the company name again.
