C.M. GAUDIBERT CAMILLE FLAMMARION Lunar globe on bronze pedestal. France around 1895. It is a detailed map of the visible surface of the moon with graphics of the two polar caps, the equator and numerous craters and geological formations. Cartouche bearing: "Globe de la Lune dressé sous la direction de Camille Flammarion par C. M. Gaudibert E. Bertaux éditeur à Paris", the list of the 343 craters known at the time as well as various information about dimensions, coordinates and lunar orbit. H. cm 30 (minor defects) Camille Flammarion (1846-1936) was a famous astronomer, writer, editor and author of another important and even rarer spherical map of the surface of Mars. Also, already at the end of the 19th century, he believed in the possibility of life on Mars.
