"Sinking of the Szent Istvan 10 June 1918" 33 XI E.F. oil on canvas (cm 100x150) Signed and dated on bottom left. In frame (defects) SMS Szent István (also known as Santo Stefano) was a battleship of the k.u.k. Kriegsmarine (Imperial and Royal Austro-Hungarian Navy). The ship, which owed its name to Santo Stefano of Hungary, was part of the Viribus Unitis class battleships together with the other battleships. Rarely used during the First World War, it was sunk on 10 June 1918 near the island of Premuda in Dalmatia following an attack by Italian torpedo boats, an operation later celebrated as Premuda's undertaking.
