Paris: Edouard Guillaume, 1888.   Fine numbered copy of the novel by Pierre Loti, which immediately had great success with the public and which also partially inspired Puccini's Madama Butterfly. The binding is accompanied by an original bas-relief by Alexandre Falguière.   8vo (170 x 110mm). Copy n. 129 of 1000. Many illustrations by Rossy and Myrbach (very small ink stain in the lower margin of gatherings 32-35). Contemporary green morocco signed Vauthrin with bronze bas-relief on cover signed A. Falguière, gilt title on spine, silk endpapers with gilt decorations (spine lightly faded, light wear to joints).
