Bologna: Lelio dalla Volpe, 1736.   First edition of this illustrated book considered the most beautiful that Bologna produced throughout the 18th-century, the first in which the printer uses the fox as a printer's device and in which the engravings by Giuseppe Maria Crespi are published for the first time.   4to (280 x 210mm). Frontispiece, printer's device on title, portrait of the author engraved in the text, 20 full-page plates by Lodovico Mattioli da Crespi, engraved tailpieces, folding table (light and limited waterstaing to the lower margin of the first and final leaves, some light foxing and staining). Contemporary vellum with gilt title on spine label, blue edges (some staining). Provenance: Alfonso Ungarelli (contemporary ownership inscription on verso of frontispiece).
