Lyon: Sebastiano Griffo, 1552.   A small format edition of the historiographical work of Ammianus Marcellinus, of which only the final 18 books have been preserved covering from the defeat of Magnentius by Constantius II in 353 up to the Battle of Adrianople in 378.   16mo (120 x 70mm). Printer's device on title, woodcut initials (reinforcement on verso of title, browning, spotting). Later vellum, manuscript author's name on spine and later manuscript title on the lower edge (small chips ad light staining). Provenance: two early illegible ownership inscription on title and a 18th-century inscription on endpaper.
