SARNELLI, Pompeo (1649-1724) - Antica basilicografia. Naples: a spese di Antonio Bulifon, libraio di S.E. presso Giuseppe Roselli, 1686.   First edition of the treatise by the bishop and historian Sarnelli, which proposes a model for the building of churches prior to the Constantinian basilicas, an ideal reconstruction of the first buildings of worship. The ownership notes are by Antonio Bellucci (1654-1727), an important exponent of Baroque decorative painting between the 17th and 18th centuries who worked at the Emperor's Court in Vienna and London. A manuscript gathering at the end of the volume dates from 1817 and deals with the problem of cemeteries, then very topical after the Napoleonic reforms.   4to (215 x 155mm). Engraved frontispiece, coat of arms of the dedicatee Cardinal Orsini on title, woodcut headpieces and initials (frontispiece on guard with reinforced margins, browning, spotting). Contemporary vellum with manuscript title on spine, red speckled edges (modern guards, light rubbing, especially on spine). Provenance: ex libris Biblioteca Salviati (private stamp on title) - ex libris Antonio Canonici Bellucci (contemporary ownership inscription on frontispiece and title).
