The author, historian and university Professor at Modena, Venicea and Padua, "stands out for his erudite passion, for which he can be compared to his friend Panvinio, for his love and respect for the document, for his activity as a researcher of libraries and archives, for his balance and wisdom in the discrimination and use of sources, all qualities that make him the greatest and truest precursor of Muratori." (G. Bertoni).   Folio (300 x 205mm). Allegory of Bologna on title with motto "Bononia docet", woodcut initials, 4 folding tables (marginal waterstains, light browning). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine and lower edge (rubbing and chipping, stains).
