LOSE, Federico (1776-1833) - [Viaggio Pittorico e storico al Monte Spluga]. Milan: Francesco Bernuccia, [ca. 1824].   One of the rarest among the fascinating works edited by Federico Lose who illustrated, copying them from life and reproducing them in aquatint, some of the fascinating Lombard and Swiss landscapes. Here the plates are dedicated to the territories on the border of Switzerland near the Spluga pass such as Campodolcino and Chiavenna, but also to towns beyond the border such as Chur, the Castle of Razuns, Thusis etc.   Friedrich Lose prepared the volume for the publisher Francesco Bernucca, dedicating it to the Viceroy of the Lombardo-Veneto territory, Ranieri. The engravings could be coloured at the request of the purchasers of the work and often his wife Caroline took care of this elegant finish. This production was aimed at an elite audience, made up of nobles and intellectuals, also including the travelers of the time. In the present copy four of the plates have been retouched by hand by an amateur.   Oblong folio (278 x 418mm). 16 aquatint plates (lacking title, some occasional staining and foxing, 4 plates retouched with amateur handcolouring). Publisher's pink paper (slight losses and stains, some foxing).
