PIROLI, Tommaso (1752-1824) - Antiquités d'Herculanum. Paris: Piranesi, Leblanc, 1804-1806.   First edition with wide margins of the collection of engravings by the famous Roman artist Tommaso Piroli, a friend of Giovani Battista Piranesi; with his sons he published this work in Paris. The engravings are divided as follows: the first three volumes depict Paintings, the fourth and fifth Bronzes, the sixth Lamps and candelabra.   Folio (310 x 225mm). Half titles, 308 engraved plates including a folding one representing the surroundings of Pompeii (lacking Advertisement to the readers in the first volume and the text leaves in every volume, indexes at the end of volume III, IV, V are present, commentary to plate XXVI of volume V is present, foxing sometimes heavy, some marginal waterstains, and browning). Contemporary boards with later spine labels with manuscript titles, uncut (rubbed). (6)
