Milan: Ranieri Fanfani, 1824-1835.   A good, clean copy printed on strong paper and with wide margins of this work dedicated to medieval and Renaissance art. The author's ideas are still based on Winckelmann's classicism, but the interest expressed in primitives is also important.   6 (of 7?) volumes, folio (448 x 310mm). Half-titles, 328 numbered plates [73 in vol. II, 51 in vol. IV numbered 1-48 with plates 26a,b,c, and 204 in vol. 6] (occasional light browning, sporadic foxing or stains, plate XI in vol. IV with a small repaired marginal tear just touching the edge of the plate, plate CLXXX in vol. VI slightly trimmed on the outer margin, without some blanks). Elegant contemporary quarter marbled calf, gilt titles on spine labels (light rubbing and chipping). Although the number of plates is correct in SBN, a second part of vol. I is mentioned which is not present here and with the following collation: 1-47² 48¹. (6)
