[MUSICA - LEGATURA - CAROLINA BONAPARTE] - MAYR, Johann Simon (1763-1845) - Medea in Corinto - Atto II. S.L.: s.n., s.d. [probabilmente Napoli 1813].   A very sumptuous red morocco binding with the initials of the Queen of Naples Carolina Bonaparte (1782-1839), which contains hundreds of pages of manuscript music. This is the second act of Medea in Corinto composed by Simon Mayr on a libretto by Felice Romani, which was performed for the first time on November 28, 1813 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and enjoyed immediate success. The second act is divided as follows: chorus and aria "Caro albergo" (Creusa); scene and aria "Atica notte, Tartaro profondo" (Medea, Chorus); duet "Non palpitar, mia vita" (Jason, Creusa); scene and aria "I dolci momenti" (Aegean); duet "Se il sangue, la vita" (Aegean, Medea); "Cavatina Amor, per te penai" (Jason, Chorus); scene and aria "Ah, che tento?" (Medea, Chorus); final second "Era tua sposa" (Chorus, Jason, Creon, Tydeus, Evander, Egeus, Medea). Carolina Bonaparte, wife of Gioacchino Murat, became Queen of Naples in 1808, always favored the arts and encouraged the excavations of Pompeii. It could be the copy commissioned by the composer as a tribute to the Queen.   Oblong 4to (220 x 300mm). Second act only of the opera, printed title, music and texts of the arias manuscript on 308 leaves (paperflaw at title not touching text, light browning and some light soiling). Contemporary red straight grained morocco, rich gilt decorations on covers and C surmounted by a crown, gilt title and decorations on spine, gilt decorations on dentelles, green silk endpapers, gilt edges (some scratches, light wear and scuffing). Provenance: Respinis scripsi (signature on final leaf) - This volume was exhibited in 2017 at Palais Fesch - Musée de Beaux art, on the occasion of the exhibition "Caroline soeur de Napoélon.
