BIRINGUCCIO, Vannoccio (1480-ca.1539) - La Pyrothecnie ou art du feu. Rouen: Jacques Cailloue, 1627.   The French translation by Jacques Vincent of the renowned work by Biringuccio, published for the first time in 1540 and dedicated to fire and its applications in mines, metallurgy, warfare and chemical fireworks. Biringuccio was director of the Siena mint, construction manager of the Siena Cathedral and manager of the papal foundry.   4to (207 x 145mm). Woodcut vignette on title, woodcut initials and headpieces, numerous woodcut illustrations (title and first leaves repaired in the outer margin, washed, some foxing and worming mostly in the margins, but often touching some letters without compromising the legibility of the text, in the second half of the work the worming is repaired at the upper margin with some small losses, some pages lightly trimmed at the upper margin, some other restorations). Modern binding with leather spine over paper boards (modern endpapers). Provenance: illegible ownership inscription in French on title's verso by a private individual, in the lower margin of the same and in some other parts of the work.
