CAPRARA, Alberto (1627-1691) - Insegnamenti del vivere del conte Alberto Caprara a Massimo suo nipote. Bologna: erede di Domenico Barbieri, 1672.   First edition of this delightful collection of tales, each illustrated by an engraving at the beginning of the text, aimed at educating the youth. The author, diplomat and man of letters, was a member of the Accademia dei Gelati and was elected prince in 1654. He stayed in Rome, where he assiduously attended the Accademia degli Umoristi, and was later accepted into the Academy of Queen Christina of Sweden.   4to (210 x 150mm). Woodcut decoration on title, woodcut headpieces and initials, 30 full-page engraved illustrations (without engraved frontispiece, errata illustration applied on paper M3, light browning heavier in gathering O, tear restored in C4 and other occasional marginal tears, some soiling). Later vellum, gilt title and date on spine labels, yellow edges (light rubbing on spine, wormtrack on back cover). Provenance: B.C. (stamp on endpaper).
