SERLIO, Sebastiano (1475-1554 ) - Architettura di Sebastiano Serlio bolognese. Venice: Giacomo Hertz, 1663.   A valuable edition, with hundreds of woodcut engravings, of the architectural treatise by Sebastiano Serlio which represented a milestone for Renaissance doctrine and for the progress of architecture. The illustrations of the first five books appear to be the same used in the Venitian edition of 1560, but greatly enriched.   Folio (374 x 244mm). Titles within an elaborate woodcut frame for all books except the second, printer's device on first title and at end, portrait of the author, woodcut initials, head-and-tail pieces, splendid illustrations mostly woodcut and engraved in the final part, two unnumbered errata leaves with engravings added after pages 245 and 332 (title, B4 and final page with reinforcements to inner margin, small wormholes sometimes touching some letters and engravings, some light staining and waterstaining, some browning). 18th-century half calf, gilt titles on spine labels, speckled edges (light rubbing, small losses on labels, minimum wear, modern guards).
