The author, a renowned physicist and engineer member of the Royal Society, was a great lover of ancient architecture, and his studies converged in this commentary on De Architectura.   3 parts in one volume, folio (310 x 225mm). Woodcut vignette on title with motto "Labore et tempore", engraved and woodcut headpieces and initials, many woodcut illustrations, some full-page (light foxing, a few tiny wormholes on first title). Contemporary vellum, gilt title on spine, red speckled edges (light wear, stains, small wormtracks at endpapers).
