Each nation is described from antiquity to the beginning of the 19th century through the depiction of costumes, views, portraits and folding maps.   Oblong 8vo (215 x 275mm). 145 engraved plates finely hand-coloured at the time (some small tears, some slight waterstaining and foxing, light browning). Quarter calf with gilt titles, blindstamped and gilt decorations, speckled edges (some loss and rubbing especially at extremities and corners). The number of plates may vary and the lot is therefore sold as not subject to return.
