DE BRUYN, Cornelis (1652-1727) - Voyage au Levant, c'est-à-dire dans les principaux endroits de l'Asie Mineure, dans les îles de Chio, Rhodes, Chypre, etc. Paris and Rouen: Jean-Baptiste-Claude Bauche e Charles Ferrand, 1725.   An elegant copy with illustrious provenance of the first French collective edition which brings together the accounts of the travels to the East by the Dutch painter and traveler Cornelis de Bruyn. The first Dutch editions of these two voyages appeared respectively in 1698 and in 1711 and the first French editions in 1700 and in 1718.   5 volumes, 4to (284 x 217mm). Engraved frontispiece with portrait of the author by Scotin, titles printed in red and black with printer's device, 4 (of 5?) folding maps and 69 (of 85?) engraved plates, many of which folding, all by the author and engraved, woodcut initials (lacking some plates, without blank 4B4 in vol. II, sporadic foxing and browning, occasional small stains). Contemporary leather with gilt-decorated spines, titles on red leather labels, red edges and marbled endpapers (light rubbing and small losses, some bumped corners).
