KÖHLER, Johann David (1684-1755) - Descriptio Orbis Antiqui in XLIV Tabulis exhibita. Nuremberg: eredi Homann, [s.d., ca. 1760].   A fascinating 18th-century atlas with more than 40 maps engraved by Johann Christoph Weigel (1654-1725), handcoloured and depicting numerous European, African and Asian regions. Most of the plates also depict coins used in ancient times in the respective regions, following the author's great interest in numismatics.   Folio (355 x 235mm). Engraved title, 43 (of 44) engraved handcoloured maps (lacking map 32 "Castrametatio Israelitarum", right margin of the final map reinforced, small wormtracks on plates 31 and 33, marginal wormtrack that does not touch the engravings on the final two plates, browning, spotting). Modern binding reusing earlier leather with closing lace, burgundy silk endpapers (rubbed). Provenance: Karl und Josefa Petschek (20th-century bookplate on endpaper) - Bruno Bernardoni (private stamp on title's verso) - P.A. (stamp on title's verso).
