LANGLES, Louis Mathieu (1763-1824) - Monuments anciens et modernes de l'Hindoustan. Paris: P. Didot, 1821.   An uncut copy of this interesting illustrated work dedicated to Hindostan. The author, Langles, left his military career to study oriental cultures and this, although left unfinished, is his most important publication. The volumes explore the archaeological and aesthetic aspects of Hindu monuments by comparing them with other monuments, including some in Egypt and Morocco.
