Venice: apud Aldum, 1588.   Aldine edition, edited by Aldus the Younger, of Caesar's work, illustrated by fascinating woodcuts, some full-page, and by two folding woodcut geographical maps depicting Gallia and the Iberian Peninsula.   8vo (160 x 110mm). Printer's device on title, woodcut initials, woodcut illustrations, 2 folding geographical maps (small tear to second map, wormtracks on lower margin of gatherings I-L and on the outer margin of gatherings 2h-2i which do not touch the text, tiny holes in the final gatherings which do not compromise the legibility of the text, light browning, occasional small waterstains and non-invasive tiny stains). Modern binding reusing parts of antique vellum (modern endpapers, some wear). Provenance: Hic liber est mei qui nomine vocor Petrus De Busis (ownership inscription on leaf i6v) - contemporary ownership inscriptions erased on title - a few contemporary annotations by different hands.
