Paris: Wolfgang Hopyl, 1521 [ma 1520 come al colophon].   Commentary on the Gospel of St. John written by Cyril of Alexandria, patriarch of the city and important theologian, with a leading role in the Christological disputes of his time.   Folio (284 x 200mm). Woodcut title with symbol of St. John, woodcut initials (title from the 1521 edition, but with the collation corresponding to the one of 1520, first and final gathering from another copy, reinforcements to the inner margin of title and final leaves, p. 185 and 186 omitted in the numbering, F8 with tear to the inner margin, some staining, foxing and browning). Modern calf, spine with 3 raised bands, blindstamped decorations on covers, manuscript title on the lower edge (slight scratches). Provenance: partially illegible inscription on title and some contemporary annotations.
