DONI, Anton Francesco (1513-1574 ) - Pistolotti amorosi, de magnifici sig.ri Academici pellegrini. Venice: nell'Academia Pellegrina, per Francesco Marcolini, 1554.   Second edition of the first book and first edition of the second; a third book will be published by Giolito in 1558. The collection was printed under the name of "Academici Pellegrini" as it is not all written by Doni. It is an anthology of epistles, chapters, madrigals, sonnets, epigrams, songs and much more (see Giovanna Romei in D.B.I.). Anton Francesco Doni was one of the most prominent writers, theorists, utopians and tragedians of Italian Mannerism.   2 parts in one volume, 8vo (143 x 95mm). Printer's device on titles of the two parts and at end, historiated woodcut initials, two full-page illustrations in the second part (slight restorations on final leaf). 18th-century calf decorated in gilt on covers, spine and dentelles, marbled edges (minor rubbing, ex libris removed on front pastedown).
