[BINDING] - CONTARINI, Gaspare (1483-1542) - De Republica Venetorum libri quinque. She give: Officina Elzeviriana, 1628.   A copy in red morocco of this work on the history of Venice. The book is part of the editorial program "Piccole repubbliche" published by the Elzeviri family who brought so much prestige to the printers and enormously spread the 24° format.   24mo (106 x 53mm). Engraved title with symbol and view of Venice, woodcut initials (waterstaining to upper margin of the first leaves, B7 with some small staining touching the text without compromising legibility, some light browning). Red 17th-century morocco, elaborate gilt decorations on spine and covers, coat of arms of Fugger, gilt edges (slightly darkened spine with a tiny wormhole also present at the bottom of the front joint). Provenance: Bonaventura , Freiherr zu Kirchheim und Schmiechen (1619- 1693) or Sebastian, Freiherr zu Nordendorf, Wörth, Mattsies und Duttenstein (1620- 1677) (coat of arms on the front cover) - William Semprini (small ticket at the end).
