Milan: fratelli Malatesta, 1653.   First edition of this very important work for 17th-century Milanese history, which reports, among other things, "the Expenses made by the State of Milan to free the city from its oldest debts in the space of 25 years without imposing new burdens, the Census of Salt, the Tax de' Cavalli, the Ordinance Cavalry Tax, Plague Expenses etc". Vinciana II, 1093: “There are no known other editions of this remarkable and unknown work in the main bibliographies. The chapters on the costs of the plague and for the maintenance of the militias are important".   Folio (340 x 215mm). Engraved frontispiece, woodcut headpieces and initials, addition of the leaf "Nomina de SS del Tribunale di Provisione per l'anno presente 1653 conforme sta registrato nelli atti del Tribunale" after leaf b2 (small wormtracks on frontispiece, stain on outer margin of A1, a few little stains, some light waterstaining, paper flaw touching some letters to 4Q4, light browning). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine and lower edge (rubbing especially to corners and spine ends). Provenance: Giulio Cesare Bonetti (contemporary ownership inscription on endpaper) - manuscript leaf at the end - wax on title with coat of arms (Habsburg?).
