[PALERMO] - MONGITORE, Antonino (1663-1743) - L'Atto Pubblico di Fede solennemente celebrato nella citta di Palermo à 6 Aprile 1724. Palermo: Agostino e Antonino Epiro, 1724.   A fascinating copy which belonged to the famous italian screenwriter Mario Serandrei, of this work describing the "Act of Faith" organized by the Sicilian Tribunal of the Inquisition in honour of Charles VI of Habsburg. The work is accompanied by 4 fine and large engraved folding plates illustrating the event each with an explanation text. Among these, we note the last illustration depicting the burning of Suor Geltruda and Fra Romualdo.   Folio (275 x 185mm). Woodcut arms of the Inquisition on title, woodcut initials and tail pieces, 4 folding engraved plates (wormtracks restored to the upper margin of title which continues in the following pages - sometimes restored - and rarely touching text without compromising its legibility, reinforcements and non-invasive restorations to the plates, plate 3 slightly cropped at one end, plate 4 with a small tear to the inner margin, some light staining and foxing). Later half calf, marbled boards, titles on label and gilt decorations on spine (some light staining). Provenance: Inquisition stamp on front endpaper - Mario Serandrei (1907-1966; bookplate on front endpaper).
