CICERONE, Marco Tullio (106 a.C.- 43 a.C.) - La Topica. Venice: Gabriele Giolito de Ferrari, 1556. A vernacular edition of Cicero's "Topica" translated by Simone della Barba with commentary by his brother Pompeo della Barba. Pompey was also responsible for the Ciceronian "places", illustrated with examples from Dante, Petrarca and Boccaccio, and the translation of Boethius's "Differenze Locali", added as an appendix to the Ciceronian text almost like a compendium. 8vo (148 x 95mm). Printer's device on title and at the end, woodcut initials, headpieces and decorations (light occasional staining, light browning). 18th-century calf, titles on label and gilt decorations on spine, red edges, marbled endpapers (small wormtracks and slight losses on spine, light wear). Provenance: booksellers stamp on front endpaper.
