Lugdunum Batavorum: Jan Paedts Jacobszoon, 1622.   An edition of Hesiod's works by the renowned Dutch philologist Daniel Heinsius (1580-1655). Professor of Greek philology from 1609 and of history at Leiden University from 1613, Heinsius enjoyed enormous fame. Among his main editions are those of Aristotle's "Poetics", Horace, Seneca, Ovid and Virgil, in addition to Hesiod.   8vo (173 x 110mm). Title in red and black with printer's device, woodcut initials (occasional light staining, light browning and soiling). Later calf, gilt title on later spine label, blind-stamped decorations on covers, speckled edges (light scuffing). Provenance: "Sum exlibris Johannis Bernardi Walbeck. 1626" (ownership inscription on title).
