The preface is curious and it introduces the story of the Greek manuscript of the work: "..nella gran persecutione che da Gotti et altre nationi Barbare hebbero universalmente e buoni libri et l'altre cose degne di memoria eterna, fu costretto el poverello, se dovea salvarsi la vita, rinchiudersi con altri compagni in una forte torre, della quale non ha potuto uscire prima d'adesso, tutto consumato dalla longa prigionia et così mal'inarnese che si è vergognato di lasciarsi vedere nell'habito in che era di prima..". The work, a collection of moralizing short stories, originated in India and enjoyed great success in the West.   8vo (152 x 100mm).
