[MANOSCRITTO] - MONTESQUIEU, Charles-Louis de Secondat (1689-1755) - Lettere persiane tradotte dal Francese all'Italiano - Manoscritto del XVIII secolo ca.   A manuscript in an elegant contemporary binding containing the translation of Montesquieu's 'Persian Letters.' The translator declares at the end of the text to have translated the work from French based on the 1740 Amsterdam edition by Jacques Desbordes (fifth edition). It is interesting to note that the first Italian translation of Montesquieu's work dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, while the first complete translation is from the 1920s. This manuscript, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the work of an 18th-century literary figure and was probably written in the decade following 1740, given the characteristics of the paper support, binding, and handwriting.   4to (220 x 175mm). Manuscript on paper composed of 258 unnumbered leaves, written by a single hand (occasional staining, final leaf slightly browned). Contemporary calf, gilt titles on spine label and gilt decorations on spine and covers, gilt edges, marbled endpapers (light wear at joints and extremities, light scuffing).
