The plates are arranged at the beginning of the canti, also introduced by 20 engraved headpieces containing portraits of the heroes of the poem with their names in Italian.   2 volumes, 8vo (230 x 140mm). Two engraved frontispieces with portraits of Tasso and Gravelot, engraved vignettes on titles, engraved dedication, 20 engraved plates, engraved headpieces (foxing, waterstaining on title of second volume). Contemporary red morocco, rich floral border on covers, gilt decorations and title on spines, gilt decorated dentelles, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (light rubbing on spine and joints). Provenance: AC (ancient manuscript monogram on title) - ownership inscription erased from title. (2)
