TASSONI, Alessandro (1565-1635) - La secchia rapita poema eroicomico, e 'l primo canto dell'Oceano. Ronciglione: Giovanni Battista Brogiotti, 1624.   Second edition, perhaps printed in Rome instead of Ronciglione, of Tassoni's heroic-comic poem, here for the first time with the definitive title "La secchia rapita" and with the author's name. Tassoni's aim was to mock the futile rivalry between Modena and Bologna, but the intention and licentiousness of the work did not please the ecclesiastical censors very much, who prevented its publication in Padua and forced the author to print it in Paris in 1622.   12mo (140 x 70mm). Engraved frontispiece, woodcut headpieces and initials (light browning, a few tiny marginal tears and tiny ink stains, light soiling). 19th-century brown morocco, triple gilt fillet on covers, gilt decorations and title on spine, gilt decorated dentelles, marbled endpapers (light rubbing at joints). Provenance: Marco di Carrobio (bookplate on endpaper).
