[SCHERMA] - GUNTERRODT, Henricus (1557-1618) - De veris principiis artis domicatoriae, tractatus brevis. Wittenberg: Mattheus Welack, 1579-[1857].   First edition of this rare work on the principles of fencing. Bound with other manuscript texts about fencing written by different hands in German on 66 leaves. The first, "Rappier fencing.. Interpretation of the Cirkeels ex libello Henrici à Gunterroth", is a commentary of the present printed work by Gunterrodt. The text also comprise "Hanssen Herwarths vonn Würtzburg volgo Hantz Gürtler, Regeln vom Fechten im Rapir", Rules of fencing, followed by: “ettliche Lectiones vonn Salvador zu Padua, Angefangen bei ihm 8. Martij Ao. (15)90 - Lectiones, welches Saluator, der berümbte Fechter, seinen Schülern gibt" being Several lessons from Salvador in Padua, starting with him 8. Martij Ao. (15)90 - Lessons that Saluator, the famous fencer, gives to his students. Also tipped in is an interesting folding 16th century woodcut entitled "Aus teilung des zirkels" depicting the ‘magic’ circle where the fencers would train themselves.   4to (202 x 158mm).
