GERSON, Jean (1363-1429) - Inuentarium eorum que in operibus Gersonis continentur.. Prima pars operum. [Nuremberg: Georg Stuchs], 1489 [Anno dominice natiuitatis. 1489. mens vero Decembris. x.k[alendi]s].   A good copy of part of Gerson's work printed in Nuremberg in 1489 and simultaneously in Basel in the same year. The famous French theologian and philosopher attempted to develop a mystical theology that opposed scholastic theology and is considered as a transitional figure between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. For a long time he was also believed to be the author of the Imitatio Christi, a theory today rejected by scholars. For correct identification of the edition: ig00188000.   First and fourth part only, 4to (214 x 155mm). The work begins with the title of the fourth part "Inuentarium eorum que in operibus Gersonis continentur", with on verso a full-page woodcut of a Christian pilgrim passing in front of a castle and holding a coat of arms with the letter T in his hand , the collation of the first part is as reported in SBN A-E⁸ F¹². The title of the first part follows "Prima pars operum Iohannis Gerson" with the full-page woodcut repeated at verso and the following collation as called for in SBN a-z⁸ &⁸ [con]⁸ [ter]⁸ [rum]⁸ (few pages just a touch trimmed, some occasional stains). 18th-century quarter calf, vellum corners, marbled paper covers, blue speckled edges (some wear). Provenance: some ancient manicula - SMG (stamp within a circle repeated several times with the addition of the word "Casalis").".
