ANGELUS DE CLAVASIO (1411-1495) - Summa angelica de casibus conscientiae. Chivasso: Jacobinus Suigus de Suico, 13 maggio 1486.   First edition of the renowned Summa angelica by Clavasio, the only 15th century book printed in Chivasso. A copy rubricated in red and with elegant contemporary annotations, unfortunately lacking two leaves and with a third almost completely lost. The work is edited by Angelo Carletti da Chivasso, a well-known theologian of the Friars Minor, and it contains 659 articles in alphabetical order which constitute the equivalent of a dictionary of moral theology. It attracted a wide readership, being published in 31 editions until 1520, when it was publicly burned by Martin Luther as an example of Catholic orthodoxy. No copy is record at the BSB library. ia00713000.   4, (212 x 144mm). Rubricated in red (lacking 2 leaves of the first gathering, H1 torn and almost completely lost, without the final two blanks, browning and staining, some tears and detached page, a few wormholes). Contemporary vellum that reuses manuscript pages, leather spine (worn with heavy losses). Provenance: elegant contemporary annotations by various hands - Casalens (stamp within a circle on title).
