Hamilton, 1800.   First edition of this fascinating travel chronicle through the Lepontine Alps, richly illustrated by splendid aquatint engravings depicting views of cities and Alpine landscapes, including Lyon, Geneva, Cluse, Lausanne. The plates were drawn and engraved by the author himself.   Folio (435 x 282mm). A folding map, a map of Lyon and 25 aquatint engraved plates of views in sepia (without engraved title, numbering error of plate 3, plate 12 bound before plate 4, widespread browning and foxing, tiny wormtrack at the lower corner of plate 21). Contemporary blue half-morocco over marbled plates, morocco label with gilt title on front cover, gilt decorations on spine, blue speckled edges (rubbing and chipping on spine, front cover partially detached). It was not possible to find a collation, our copy is collated as follows: π1, A-I, 3K2 (-3K2).
