BICCHIERAI, Alessandro (1734-1797) - Raccolta dei disegni delle fabbriche regie de’ bagni di Montecatini nella Valdinievole. Florence: Gaetano Cambiagi, 1787.   An excellent copy exceptionally complete of both volumes and with the text volume printed on strong blue paper. It is the first and only edition of this elegant publication celebrating the new thermal baths of Montecatini Terme near Pistoia, designed by Niccolò Gasparo Paoletti between 1774 and 1778, under the patronage of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Pietro Leopoldo.   2 volumes, the text in 4to (281 x 215mm), the atlas, folio, (575 x 395mm). Text volume printed on light blue paper: engraved arms on title, 4 plates including: a fine double-page view of the baths, a folding table with the "Synoptic table", 2 engraved folding plates including the large plan of the baths then repeated as the first plate in the atlas volume (few sporadic stains). Contemporary calf decorated in gilt on covers, spines and inlays, marbled endpapers and red edges (minimal rubbing and few wormholes) - Atlas: engraved title with coat of arms, an unnumbered plate titled "Collection of drawings from the bath factories of Monte Catini in Valdinievole", which repeats in large format the first plate in the text volume, and 14 plates numbered 1-14 (some light occasional foxing). Contemporary half vellum over marbled paper plates, paper label on front cover, gilt title on spine (minimal rubbing, bottom edge of spine chipped). (2)
