VASI, Giuseppe Agostino (1710-1782) - [Mariano VASI (1744-1820)] - Raccolta delle più belle vedute antiche, e moderne di Roma disegnate ed incise secondo lo stato presente. Rome: presso l'autore, 1786.   An excellent copy of this profuse work dedicated to Rome by Vasi complete with the 200 numbered plates and with an additional series of unnumbered plates or with repeated numbering for a total of 212 plates. The edition was published by Vasi's son, Mariano, and the copies vary in composition and number of plates so much so that, as RIBA points out, they seem to have been composed from material available at the time of sale. This is one of the most complete copies to ever appear on the market.   2 volumes, oblong folio (275 x 390mm). Titles with engraved vignettes in both volumes within a double woodcut border, unnumbered plate with dedication and 5 other unnumbered plates in the first volume which include "Veduta interna del Panteon d'Agrippa", "Anfiteatro Flavio", "Palazzo Augustale detto Maggiore", "Spelonca, e Fonte della Ninfa Egeria" e "Tempio creduto da alcuni della Fortuna", 5 unnumbered plates also in volume two comprising "Arco di Costantino", "Sepolcro di Cecilia", "Sepolcro della Famiglia Pauzia", "Tempio della Tosse", "Veduta del celebre Tempio della Sibilla", plate 165 numbered in pen and two plates numbered 187, one of which in pen, in the title of volume two a paper label corrects "Palazzo Farnese" with "Casa Barazzi" (some soiling, occasional foxing and staining, at the beginning of the second volume some dampstaining at upper corner touching the first plates). Contemporary half calf over marbled paper plates, elegant spine labels with titles in gilt (modern guards, minimal rubbing). (2)
