Milano: Valerio e Girolamo Meda, 1556.   An annotated copy of the second edition of the Constitutiones, published for the first time in 1541. It is an important historical and legal document which includes the statutes of Milan promulgated by Charles V in 1541. Two other legal works of the time are bound in the same volume, one unfortunately incomplete.   3 works in one volume, folio (289 x 205mm). Titles within woodcut borders, two manuscript leaves added in the first work (third work lacking title, gathering A4 and leaf A1, cropped title and wormtrack touching the text in the final leaves of the second work, restoration to lower corner of A8 and small wormtrack to outer margin of gathering C in the third work, waterstaining to final two works, general browning). 18th-century half vellum, gilt title on spine label, red speckled edges (light rubbing). Provenance: numerous antique annotations (often cropped).
