Venezia: Giovanni Battista e Melchiorre Sessa, 1568.   A valuable edition, with hundreds of woodcut engravings, of the architectural treatise by Sebastiano Serlio which represented a milestone for Renaissance doctrine and for the progress of architecture.   Folio (345 x 240mm). Titles within an elaborate woodcut border, printer's device at the end, woodcut initials and illustrations, 40 engraved plates (of 50) in the second work (lacking gatherings K-T4 of the third book, restorations to the corner and outer margin of title partially touching the border, losses to outer margin of the first leaves, traces of humidity, foxing, and browning). Contemporary limp vellum, manuscript title on spine (stains, wormtracks and humidity on spine). Provenance: "est commodo..Laurenty Petroly" (contemporary ownership inscription on title).
