[ERASMO DA ROTTERDAM] - MELANCHTHON, Philipp (1497-1560) - Erotemata. Wittenberg: Hans Lufft, 1548. [LEGATO CON:] - SUSENBROTUS, Joannes (1484/1485–1542/1543). Epitome troporum ac schematum. Zurigo: Christoph Froschauer, s.d. [E CON:] - SCHADE, Petrus (1493-1524). Tabulae..de schematibus et tropis. Francoforte: Christian Egenolff, 1547. [E:] - ERASMO DA ROTTERDAM (1466 o 1469-1536). De Conscribendis Epistolis. Colonia: Martin Gymnich, 1548.   An interesting collection of 16th-century works on grammar and rhetoric, richly and extensively annotated by a contemporary hand. The anthology includes, among others, Erasmus's most renown rhetorical work, in which the author provides an elaborate explanation on how to write a letter, arguing that the teacher should give an outline of the topic to be covered, define it in detail, and provide material from classical and contemporary authors. The texts, clearly didactic in nature, show evidence of students' study: the first work, in particular, is extremely rich in notes and contemporary annotations. The notes, mostly in Latin but with some Greek interventions, are of various types: some comment on the text by referencing other works, mostly classical, others are explanatory, and others furthermore represent examples and exercises (for example, note the numerous exercises and notes on syllogisms). This copy, finally, bears an interesting ownership note likely attributable to the Kepler family.   4 works in one volume, 8vo (143 x 100mm). Title of the first work within an elaborate woodcut border, woodcut vignette on title of the third work, woodcut initials (some light staining, ink stain on c1 corresponding to a removed annotation, gathering D of the third work with marginal paperflaw and slight loss of text on D5, slight browning). Contemporary pigskin with rich blind-stamped decorations, manuscript title on outer edge, metal clasps (noticeable wear, minor losses, darkened spine). Provenance: "Ex libris Vendelini Keppalerij" (contemporary ownership inscription) - numerous contemporary annotations.
