CAPRA, Francois (m. 1705) - Catalogue des chevaliers de l'ordre du collier de Savoye, dict de l`Annonciade, avec leurs noms, surnoms, qualitez, armes, et blasons. Turin: Barthelemy Zavatte, 1654.   A good copy of the first edition of this sumptuous and elaborate catalogue of the knights of the Collare of the Annunziata, the highest honour of the Savoy state. A magnificent work, entirely engraved in wood with the exception of the preface and the table at the end, illustrated with a full-page figure depicting a Knight of the Annunciation in costume and 270 full-page coats of arms with biographies and always enclosed in an elegant frame. The depiction of the arms follows the order of the "creations" from the year of the foundation of the association according to Capra in 1362 until 20 July 1653; with a curious manuscript update at the end which continues from the year 1653 until 1821. Only three copies registered on RBH.   Folio (427 x 285mm). Woodcut vignette on title, initials and headpieces, portrait with on the verso of the same leaf and on the 270 following numbered leaves full-page woodcut arms depicting helmets, crowns, crests, flourishes, lieutenants and much more, each with text enclosed within an elegant woodcut border; 8 manuscript leaves with an update at end (occasional light soiling, few stains, occasional browning). Contemporary calf with gilt arms, marbled edges (somewhat worn with chips especially at extremities and spine, lower part of spine detached). Provenance: Le? Gougnon? daugenion? (early ownership inscription on title) - Pizzioli de Albertoni (bookplate).
