Works never before seen on the market and authentic rediscoveries are the guidelines of the catalogue of 19th and 20th century Paintings and Sculptures
coming to auction at Palazzo Crivelli on 21 June 2022. Some of the most prominent names on the Italian scene of the period will be present: two hundred signatures for an ensemble that spans over two centuries of painting. Within this corpus, the "Studio di figura" by Francesco Hayez (lot 199, € 14,000 - 15,000) stands out, portraing one of the characters of the condemned Mary Stuart, a painting currently preserved in the collections of the Louvre Museum. A very sophisticated taste is also obvious in the orientalist-inspired portraits by Domenico Morelli (lot 182, estimate € 4,000 - 5,000) and the feminine figures by Antonio Mancini (lot 187, estimate € 18,000 - 20,000) and Federico Zandomeneghi (lot 197, estimate € 95,000 - 100,000) alongside other Italiens de Paris such as Giovanni Boldini (lot 189, estimate € 8,000 - 10,000).

Highlight of the pre-view are the landscapes which assume a different meaning each time: from the splendid "Canale olandese" by Giuseppe Canella (lot 200, estimate € 15,000 - 20,000), which re-elaborates the Venetian inspired Vedutismo, opening up to 19th century innovations from France but at the same time reinterpreting 17th century Dutch landscape painting, to the "Pascolo presso i monti nel Canavese" by Enrico Reycend (lot 193, estimate € 10,000 - 11,000), an impressionist-inspired Piedmontese, much loved by the art historian Roberto Longhi; and through to the mountain views of Divisionist derivation of Cesare Maggi (lot 185, estimate € 5,500 - 6,000) and Giovanni Battista Ciolina (lot 186, estimate € 9,000 - 10,000).

Also linked to landscapes is the work put forward by the rediscovered Milanese Uberto dell'Orto, who died prematurely, an exponent of Lombard naturalism and, in particular, of the representation of nature en plein air (lots 143, 144, 145, 146, 147).

The most popular figures in genre collecting also stand out in the catalogue, such as Angelo Dall'Oca Bianca, Pietro Fragiacomo, Beppe Ciardi, Arturo Tosi and Michele Cascella and the master of Divisionism Angelo Morbelli with his "Tiburio del Duomo di Milano" (lot 196 , estimate € 18,000 - 20,000): a work, until today, only known to critics from sources of the time and defined by the expert Elisabetta Chiodini "a very lucky find that allows us to add an important piece to the study and knowledge of the work of Angelo Morbelli."

"Tiburio del Duomo di Milano" 1897 oli on canvas (cm 130x93)
