Also highlighting the stature of the catalogue dedicated to the Old Master Paintings sale (18, 19 and 20 October 2023) is the beautiful and varied collection of paintings by well-known European masters with strong artistic personalities.


The catalogue is extremely diversified in terms of periods and genres, with works of great collectors' interest, as evident right from the chapter dedicated to 15th century Italian painting with the board 'Allegorical scene' by the eccentric Bolognese painter Amico Aspertini (€ 45,000 - 50,000).

The theatrical contrasts of light typical of Caravaggio's painting find a harmonious enhancement and perfect execution in both the work 'Suonatore di Liuto' attributed to the famous French painter Nicolas Regnier (€ 22,000 - 24,000) and the 'Ritratto di uno Statholder' by Gerard van Honthorst, also known as Gherardo delle Notti (€ 22,000 - 24,000), an important master of the renowned 'Golden Age' of Dutch art.

Remaining within the artistic production of the 17th century, the essential beauty of the everyday captured masterfully by Eberhard Keilhau, better known as Monsù Bernardo, in the work 'Scena domestica' (€ 11,000 - 12,000) stands out in the field of genre painting.

Further enriching the proposal is a large group of northern European works: from Jacob van Oost II to Hendrik van Balen to the Flemish Ambrosius Francken II, whose magnificent board 'Adorazione dei pastori' (€ 18,000 - 20,000).

The chapter dedicated to the 18th century includes a selection of Neapolitan paintings including a work attributed to Francesco Solimena, three paintings by Giuseppe and Elena Recco and a pair of allegorical compositions with floral motifs by Nicola Malinconico (€ 28,000 - 30,000).

Northern Italy is also well represented in the catalogue, with a specific focus on Lombard painting where, among others, works by Giuseppe Nuvolone and Carlo Ceresa are included.
