More than 600 lots are presented in the catalogue for the auction of Furniture and Old Master Paintings on the 26th, 27th, and 28th of March 2024.

A wide selection ideally divided into two main categories: furniture, in its various declinations, and old master paintings, for an heterogeneous and diversified content, articulated in four auction sessions. Each offered lot tells the tradition, influence, and taste of different geographical areas, from Southern to Northern Italy, leading to the heart of Europe.

As evidence of this, starting from the 18th furniture, we highlight the Sicilian chests of drawers (lot 145, € 14,000 - 16,000), the Tuscan crossbow chest of drawers (lot 71, € 2,200 - 2,400), the selection of lacquered Ligurian furniture (lot 88, € 2,800 - 3,000), the slender and elegant Piedmontese corner cabinet historically attributed to Prinotto (lot 142, € 14,000 - 16,000), a majestic and rare group of four 18th century consoles and mirrors (lots 146, 147, 148, and 149), up to a selection of stamped French furniture, including a commode by Macret (lot 52, € 1,300 - 1,400) and a Swedish commode (lot 101, € 6,500 - 7,000).






Lot 145
Pair of 18th sicilian chests veneered in rosewood, bois de rose and bois de violette.
In front of two drawers centered by rose windows as the sides, legs equipped with shoes, top recessed in polychrome breach of S. Bernardo (142x97x65 cm).

Pair of consoles of a moved shape gilded wood, faux marble wooden top,
legs decorated to attacks by heads of sea monsters between garlands of flowers ending in curls on shaped feet. 18th century (cm 160x86x53).

For applied arts, the journey starts again from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies with an important pair of whitewashed crater vases made by the Neapolitan master Biagio Giustiniani in the early 1800s (lot 137, € 6,000 - 8,000), crossing central Italy with the pair of Roman oil lamps (lot 98, € 4,500 - 5,000), and a small group of maiolica (lot 317, € 1,300 - 1,400), arriving in the Upper Veneto with the 17th century sculptures of "Adam and Eve" (lot 26, € 2,800 - 3,000).

Some ivory goods come from various latitudes of the continent, such as the imposing clock with a musical angel from the French manufacture of Dieppe (lot 115, € 10,000 - 12,000) and the German group depicting "Rest after the Flight into Egypt" from the workshop of Simon Troger (lot 131, € 6,000 - 7,000).

Lot 115
Dieppe manufacture, 19th century. "Angel playing drum" ivory sculpture on fluted column decorated with rosebuds and leafy scrolls,
on square pedestal with beaded profile and turned feet. In the drum there is a clock with a white enamel dial signed "J..ques Gudin, Paris" with Roman numerals for hours and Arabic numerals for minutes. Two-train moviment with hour chime on bell. (cm 28x59x28).

Lot 131
Workshop of Simon Troger (Germany, 1693-1768)
"Resting during the flight into Egypt" Sculptural group in various woods and ivory for the body parts of the figures,
resting on fake cork rock, on a wooden base (40x50 cm) inside the glass bell.

To tell us about the interesting cultural and commercial interactions between East and West, we find a collection of walking sticks, some with Shibayama grips made in Japan for the European market (lot 496, € 350 - 400), porcelain plates from the East India Company (lot 453, € 180 - 200), and some carpets with rich decorations, some figurative (lot 658, € 700 - 800).

The impressive banner from the Throne Room, with dense silk embroideries and the central emblem of King Alfonso XIII of Spain, belongs to heraldry (lot 65, € 2,500 - 3,000), the 17th century English chalice in glass bearing the shield of the House of Este (lot 78, € 3,300 - 3,500), and the ebonized wooden coin holder, inlaid with tortoiseshell, centered on the figure of Saint Charles Borromeo (lot 125, € 3,300 - 3,500).

Throne Room banner with coat of arms of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Late 19th century - early 20th century.
Embroidery in silk and silver threads depicting two opposing lions holding the Bourbon coat of arms surmounted by the royal crown (cm 180x150).

Lot 125
Art of the 18th century. Coin-holder in ebonized wood, covered in tortoiseshell and threaded in metal.
Front centered by an architectonic niche door with the figure of San Carlo Borromeo in all-round bronze concealing three pulls, over a drawer and six pulls. (cm 68x54x28x5).

Sculpture is well represented by the beautiful allegory of "Spring" by Vincenzo Pasquali (lot 19, € 3,500 - 4,000), the "Venus" by a Lombard master from the early nineteenth century (lot 94, € 3,500 - 4,000), and by a bas-relief by Alceo Dossena (lot 201, € 1,000 - 1,200).

The combination of art and science is represented by the wonderful Reuge musical box (lot 67, € 3,000 - 4,000), and a small selection of astronomical and measurement instruments (lot 251, € 2,000 - 2,500).

Completing the catalogue are silverware and porcelain for those who love the art of the table. A veritable triumph of scenic services, among which a Rosenthal design by Versace stands out (lots 231, 279, and 303), goblets embellished with rock crystal and semi-precious stones (lot 82, € 3,300 - 3,500), zoomorphic silverware such as the 18thcentury Genoese teapot (lot 93, € 4,200 - 4,400), and a toothpick holder signed by Fabergé (lot 61, € 1,800 - 2,000).

The unexplored side of the 17th century is the protagonist of this selection of Old Master Paintings.

Two novelties from the Lucca painter Girolamo Scaglia make their debut on the market: "Roman Charity" (lot 151, € 25,000 - 30,000) and "Artemisia and Mausolus" (lot 150, € 25,000 - 30,000). These paintings of singular beauty and artistic mastery represent a fascinating crossroads of stylistic influences that have made the recognition of the artist a very complex task for scholars until today.

The painting exhibition reserves other surprises with two genre scenes by the animalist painter Giovanni Agostino Cassana (lots 135-136, both estimated at € 9,000 - 10,000).

The "Allegory of Fame" by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (lot 153, € 11,000 - 12,000) stands out for its changing colors and luxurious atmosphere, furthermore, as confirmed by the monogram on the back of the canvas, this published work comes from the Barberini family.

The attentive gaze of collectors will linger on the "Sacrifice of Isaac" by the Genoese Giovanni Battista Carlone (lot 152, € 9,000 - 10,000), a painting full of emotional and psychological complexity, representative of his full artistic maturity.
