From the Florence of Donatello and Andrea della Robbia to the Rome of the Borghese, up to the treasures of the Wunderkammer.

 


The eclectic collection of Furniture, Sculptures and Works of Art, up for auction from 25 to 27 March 2025, offers an exclusive selection of pieces designed to meet collectors’ expectations and celebrate the generous spirit of antiquity.

 

 

Two authentic symbols of the Florentine Renaissance stand out: an extraordinary polychrome stucco "Madonna del Seggiolino" from the Workshop of Donatello (lot 130, € 60,000 - 70,000), and five sections of a monumental arched frieze by Andrea della Robbia (lot 132, € 55,000 - 60,000).

 





Lot 130 
Workshop of Donato di Niccolò by Betto Bardi, known as Donatello (Florence, 1386-1466). Madonna of the chair, 1450/1460 circa, polychrome stucco (62x43 cm).

Lot 132 
Andrea della Robbia. Five portions of a monumental arch frieze adorned by a vegetable feston composed of fruit (cedars, citrus fruits, quinces apples, pine) fastened by flapping ribbons, in polychrome glazed terracotta, 1480-1490 ca. (each cm 54x32).

The tradition of fine Italian cabinetmaking is expressed in all its refinement through a selection of furniture with aristocratic character. Among them, two wall tables from the Collection of Prince Paolo Borghese (lot 125, € 22,000 - 24,000 and lot 126, € 20,000 - 22,000) stand out, both originating from the famous 1892 auction. Enhancing the Roman section is a pair of wall tables with an oval biscuit plaque depicting the "Triumph of Galatea" (lot 131, € 26,000 - 28,000) and an elegant bombé bedside table with a Sicilian jasper top, attributed to Giovanni Ermans (lot 120, € 25,000 - 30,000).

Beyond the capital, the collection extends to other unique pieces: an inlaid butterfly gaming table attributed to Giuseppe Maggiolini (lot 118, € 16,000 - 18,000), an 18th-century Venetian cabinet with an engraved glass door depicting "Hercules," from the collection of a Milanese noblewoman (lot 108, € 12,000 - 14,000), and two Modenese tables, including one decorated with a noble coat of arms and an Este eagle (lot 64, € 3,300 - 3,500).

The auction also features remarkable Wunderkammer pieces, including two works by Austrian craftsman Hermann Böhm: a silver and lapis lazuli "Historismus" tower (lot 121, € 16,000 - 18,000) and a pair of cornucopias (lot 123, € 11,000 - 12,000). Among the curiosities are an Evangelary cover with ancient enamelled plaques (lot 97, € 5,500 - 6,000), Pope Pius X’s zucchetto (lot 53, € 2,400 - 2,800), and a stunning box crafted by the "Prince of Goldsmiths," Alfredo Ravasco (lot 103, € 6,500 - 7,000).

Hermann Böhm (attr), Vienna, circa 1880. Pair of silver cornucopies and polychrome enamels. Supported by a man, the horn and base painted in polychrome with biblical and classic subjects, frames with decorated leaf-like scrolls (h. cm 38).

Finally, following the spectacular results of last October, another important collection of 18th- and 19th-century Russian icons takes its place in the catalogue. Notable among them are the “Resurrection of Christ and the Twelve Great Feasts,” with a silver riza and oval enamelled porcelain plaques (lot 93, € 6,300 - 6,400), the "Apparition of the Madonna to Saint Sergius" by Nikolai Remirov - Kolodkin (lot 78, € 3,300 - 3,500), and an icon depicting "God the Father," with a silver riza signed by Nikita Nyemyelov and Nicholai Bubrovin (lot 45, € 850 - 900).
